Ruffin & Roxboro Compressor Station Installations

Augusta was selected by PSNC to provide engineering, design, drafting and material specifications to replace their existing compressors at Ruffin, NC and Roxboro, NC compressor stations.

Ruffin’s two 1960’s Solar Saturn compressors and Roxboro’s 1980’s Solar Saturn compressor will be replaced with new Solar Saturn 1600 HP compressors.

Each station is being designed with the future potential for the installation of three turbine compressors. Augusta’s project deliverables are listed below, by group discipline:

The Process/ Mechanical Group will provide a complete Basic Process Package (BPP) which includes: a process description, design basis, PFD’s for auxiliary and main and fuel gas, P&ID’s for auxiliary and main and fuel gas, equipment specifications, line list, instrument control sheets, instrument and equipment lists, and minor equipment specifications. They will also specify the main gas cooler, horizontal filter separator, fuel gas heater, pipeline fluids tank, and station air system.

Currently, the Civil/Structural Group has completed a site survey at each station to establish the elevations and benchmark locations. They will also specify the compressor and control buildings and provide civil drawings for buildings, building and equipment foundations, structural steel supports for equipment and cable trays and pipe supports.

The Piping Group will be providing piping drawings (including site plans, area plans, and sections & details) for the main gas, fuel gas and auxiliary piping and will provide material lists, which will be used to procure material.

The Electrical/Instrumentation Group will provide electrical drawings which include: a site index, hazardous area classification, grounding plan, cable tray and conduit routing & installation details, instrument list, interconnection diagrams and conduit & wire schedule. They will specify all electrical components, operators for valves, and the station back-up generator, as well as provide control schematics for motor control center and the control system.

The Automation Group will provide automation and systems integration during construction, start-up and commissioning.

Construction is expected to begin in the last quarter of 2007 at Ruffin, CS and the third quarter of 2008 at Roxboro, CS for the first units. PSNC plans to install additional units starting in 2009.
