Description:

Augusta Engineering is providing their expertise to construct a new locks facility for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The Marmet Locks will be a new and much larger locks facility that will replace the existing Kanawha River Locks System. Due to age and size, the Kanawha River Locks System has become obsolete.

For the project, Augusta is providing Environmental Services, for the testing of soils classification and soils compaction characterization, using a nuclear density gauge and additional lab testing appurtenances. Specific testing pertains to all soils removed from the work site or placed as backfill concrete testing of all a concrete used in the construction of the Locks at Marmet for strength of materials and composition. Augusta is responsible for documenting and submitting all testing results to the USACE for review and is additionally working with on-site contractors and quality control personnel to ensure the quality of the materials placed and used. The Augusta individuals assigned to this project are Level I and Level IV NICET and Level I and II ACI Certified Technicians.

The USACE contract is expected to run for six months, ending in October 2004. If federal money is continued to be allocated and approved for the project, there is expected to be a contract extension of five years.
