Description:

The Kanawha Valley Local Port Authority District selected Augusta to handle design engineering required by the Board to establish a chemical tank storage and distribution center. Located along the Kanawha River in North Charleston, WV the center is responsible for providing storage, tankage, river barge, railcar and trucking services for loading and unloading.

Previously owned by Union Carbide Corporation and DOW Chemical, the center was originally established in 1941 as a means to provide chemical storage, blending and distribution activities via railcar, river barge, trucking and pipeline to various sites and customers.

The tank and distribution center required upgrades to comply and meet the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Cost Guard, OSHA and other state and federal environmental regulatory agencies.

Renovations to the center included upgrading of the loading and unloading facilities. The work involved the addition of a new tank, pipeline, safety appliances, alarm, communications and pump upgrades and spill containments.
