Description:

Cardinal States Gathering Company, owned by Consol Energy intended to expand its CO2 plant at Grant Compressor Station in Mingo County, West Virginia. The Amines Plant Project at Grant Compressor Station increased the plant capacity by replacing the existing, smaller Amines plant with a newer, larger and more efficient facility.

Grant Compressor Station received gas via Cardinal States Gathering’s 52 mile, 16-inch pipeline that operated at 650 - 700 psig originating in Buchanan County, Virginia, near Consol Energy’s Buchanan #1 Coal Mine. This gas is primarily coal bed and coal mine methane produced in or around Consol Energy’s coal mines in Buchanan County. Due to an increase in CO2 in some of the coal mine methane, and the requirement that the Grant station operate at the maximum design rates of 100,000,000 cubic feet per day, a new larger Amines plant for the removal of CO2 from the gas stream was required.

Consol Energy recognized the critical nature of the project and the aggressive schedule and therefore, partnered with Augusta Engineering & Design, to provide all the detailed design necessary for installation of the new equipment. Augusta’s responsibilities were to provide all the civil/ structural, piping and electrical design, as well as supplement Consol Energy’s project management to construct this project. The new facility includes seven new equipment skids, two new processing columns, two air coolers, a hot oil heater and a new motor control center.
