Contract Amount:

Completed December 2004

Description:

The second of three access platform programs Marathon Ashland Petroleum released to Augusta Engineering & Design, Inc. consisted of 32 structural steel access platforms and concrete foundations.

Again, Augusta personnel wrote the construction specifications (including the bidding instructions), and then turned the specifications over to the MAP Purchasing Department for issuance. As with the first, project Augusta reviewed the construction design packages with the contractors before they were released for installation and evaluated the contractor’s bids before releasing them to MAP for final approval and selection.

Installation was performed by on-site contractors; however, this project also required that the equipment continued running while the platform work was being performed. Because this was an active petro refinery bolted connections were a must and welding was held to a minimum, only in certain non-hazardous areas.

There was zero tolerance for changes and the elimination of such change orders contributed to cost control thereby reflecting the quality of work performed by Augusta.

The project required a team of one project manager, one civil engineer and two senior designers for a period of six months. The project was completed in December of 2004.
